Becoming an affiliate is pretty easy. Just remember to try and pick your affiliates so that they compliment your site. For example if your site is on cooking, you’ll want affiliates that have something to do with cooking, like cookbooks and cookware. You wouldn’t advertise auto parts. You want ads that people looking at your site will click on and buy.
An easy way to find affiliates is to go to the sites of those merchants/advertisers that will compliment your site. Normally at the bottom for their site page there will be a link for affiliates. Just click on that link and sign up, you will have to review their terms and agree to them. Don’t just click you agree, make sure you read them, there are certain ways you can and can’t show their ads on your site. You don’t want to find a great advertiser and then blow it by advertising their ad wrong and being denied to use them.
Another place to find a lot of affiliates in one place is to go through an affiliate network like Commission Junction, Linkshare or Shareasale. These are great networks as they have a wide variety of affiliates to choose from all in one place.
Using affiliates is a great way to make some money on your site.
