Is Membership Marketing Right For You?

Membership site business models are frequently overlooked. Which is a shame, because done correctly it offers a great income potential.
So what is a Membership Site?
It’s a website that requires memberships or subscriptions to access the information in it. For example, when you subscribe to a magazine or newspaper you get future information with the convenience of it being delivered to your home, for one annual price normally at a substantial savings over the regular magazine or newsstand price.
A membership site works in a similar way. You can charge for subscriptions or memberships for premium information either monthly or annually, you can offer the subscriptions for free, or a combination of the two. For instance I am a paid member of Resell Rights Weekly, they have a free membership that offers free PLR every month, or for a low monthly membership fee you can upgrade to their Gold Membership. I am a Gold Member, which to me is worth the monthly membership cost, since it offers so much more like even more PLR articles, Products, as well as tons of free training. Click here to check them out, go ahead and sign up for the free membership. I do believe he offers a one month trial of the Gold membership for $1 (I’ve been a member for just about a year now so I’m not sure if the trial is still that low), in case you want to check it out. You can also go to my “Free PLR Membership page” (see link above this blog) to see what all you get with just the free membership.
Now back onto memberships sites, I just wanted to give you an example of one and got sidetracked sorry about that ;_) ….. Anyways, charging for a membership produces a regular monthly, quarterly or annual income. This is a great way to make a reliable cash flow. Your membership site can have several membership tiers. For example, silver (might be free), gold (might be like $27 a month) – which would offer more information than your silver membership, and then your platinum membership. Your platinum membership would offer everything in the silver and gold and then perhaps some individualized, one-on-one attention from you ( you might charge $97 or more a month for this extra).
Some folks profit by offering free memberships and then adding affiliate links and product promotions in their content. An example of this, you might offer a free monthly newsletter or report on your niche. Then each month when the report is delivered, not only are you providing your subscriber with valuable information they may be looking for, you will provide links to affiliate that may be of interest to your subscriber and in return you may gain affiliate commissions and profits.
What are the Benefits and Drawbacks to Membership Marketing?
Well the great benefit to membership marketing is that it works with just about any topic and can complement other business models as well. Not to mention, it’s a nice way to earn a consistent income and to stay in front of your subscribers and customers regularly, keeping you connected to them.
Another benefit is you can automate most of your membership site. Technology is so great, it makes it easy to schedule and deliver messages automatically.
As great as a membership site is remember there is a drawback, membership marketing does require a lot of content creation and delivery. You want to make sure your membership site has plenty of content as well as fresh new content. So if you don’t like creating plenty of content you can outsource or even supplement with PLR content.
So if you’re good at planning and want a business that offers multiple streams of income consider a membership site. Another great resource for starting a membership site is Membernaire if you’re unsure how to begin or are stuck for ideas.
