Simple Tips for a Successful Website

Posted By admin on December 13, 2011

When you have a great business idea it’s tough to hold back the enthusiasm. Which is a great thing! Motivation is a good thing. Does your business idea include creating a website?

If you’ve yet to begin building your website and are still brainstorming your business model and ideas for it, that’s good. It’s important to spend some time making sure your business idea is a solid one. Too many jump into a business idea with ever really thinking it through, only to fail or just give up. So taking some time to really think about it as well as doing some research is very smart.

Here are some simple tips to consider once you’re ready to begin building your website, or if you already have begun.

#1. KISS. KISS stands for Keep it Simple Silly. When visitors arrive at your website they’re going to spend about thirty seconds of their time there. So if your website is too distracting or doesn’t have great content they won’t take the action you want them to or even stick around long.

So, keeping it simple means minimizing the graphics and formatting. Take a look at and study those websites that you like visiting. What is it about them that keeps you coming back? Now take a look at those site you don’t like, what is it about them that makes you click right out? Keep that in mind when creating your site.

#2. Simple Navigation Keys. Navigation, this is how your visitors move around on your website. If the navigation is complicated then your visitors won’t be able to find what they’re looking for, or they may get irritated and just leave.

So your website navigation should be simple and straight forward. Make sure your visitors can find what they are looking for, use keywords and clear button categories to make moving around on your site simple. I have left many a website if they were not easy to maneuver.

#3. Visitor’s Experience. Not only do you want to make sure it’s easy to navigate around on your website, but you want to ensure it loads quickly. Making sure your graphics are as small as they can be can help. No extra large graphics.

The larger your files the longer they will take to load your website. Think about how long are you willing to wait when you visit a website. Chances are your visitors may not be patient, so make sure your site loads quickly.

Also, make sure your site is viewable on all of the major browsers like: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and other browsers may display your website differently. If you can check your site on each of these primary browsers to see how your page loads.

Remember your website is often your first opportunity to make a good impression. The more your visitors enjoy your website the more likely they are to come back again and again.
